I’ve just spent the weekend working with these beautiful dendritic opals. Each one has its own unique character.
So, what are these beautiful stones that look like they have forests living in them?
They are in fact opals, but they’re common opals, not the precious opals that you’re probably more familiar with flashes of greens, blues and reds. Dendrites are fern-like inclusions of iron, manganese, or other metallic oxides that create bold patterns within the stone. There are other stones that carry dendrites, such as moss agate, dendritic agate and dendritic quartz.
Whilst doing some research into what these stones are, how they’re made up and what they represent, I came across this, which is perhaps why I’ve been drawn to these stones, aside from their minimalist unique beauty.
